IDEAL TOOL

Integrated Design Evaluation and Learning Tool

OVERVIEW

The IDEAL tool is comprised of metrics used to evaluate building design from schematics to post-occupancy.

The evaluation produces a score between 0 and 100, with 100 representing the design alternative with the best value and highest performance across key design elements.

The scores are calculated using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a method designed to support complex decisions.

Results can be used to objectively rank potential designs, pinpoint deficiencies, and identify improvements.

KEY ELEMENTS

The tool can be customized for any building type and used during each design phase.  The objective is to ensure that project planning goals are achieved through quality design.  Evaluation criteria include:

  • Programming Requirements
  • Image and Aesthetics
  • Space Functionality
  • Security
  • Space Standards
  • General Building and Operations
  • Technology
